Maurice Steijn fervently hopes that Mohammed Kudus will stay with Ajax for another season, he said in conversation with Marcel Maijer from VTBL. According to the Ajax trainer, it is ‘very clear that he is still there in this diptych with Ludogorets’. The 49-year-old coach also discusses Davy Klaassen’s situation.

“I currently expect him to stay with us this season. It is very clear that he is just part of this diptych”, Steijn answers when asked whether he is counting on the Kudus this season. “I hope he stays. Furthermore, that is something that is on the plate of Sven Mislintat. That is beyond me.” Director of football affairs Mislintat is busy negotiating with West Ham United about a transfer of the right winger annex midfielder.

“Kudus himself knows that I really want him to stay, and that is an understatement,” concludes Steijn. Despite all the transfer troubles, the coach from The Hague is not worried that Kudus’ head is already somewhere else. “Yesterday I saw the best Kudus in training so far. He is really focused on playing well. He is ready.”

The former manager of NAC Breda and Sparta Rotterdam, among others, also discusses Klaassen’s situation. “I don’t know what will happen to him. I haven’t talked to him about it, but he knows his status and he knows how much I appreciate him. The moment he threatens to fall outside the base for a longer period, he has to decide for himself what he wants: do you want to be part of the team or go on a nice adventure somewhere?”
