Latest update:

Hans Kraay junior sympathizes with Sem Steijn, as he said in a video ESPN in which the analyst looks back on the first half of the season. Despite all the commotion surrounding his father Maurice Steijn at Ajax, the FC Twente midfielder is having an excellent season.

Steijn is one of the trendsetters of the Eredivisie this season and was accurate ten times in sixteen games in the Eredivisie. The attacking midfielder is therefore in fourth place on the top scorers list.

“Maybe he is my husband of the last six months,” said Kraay. “He has only been complaining about his father. There may also have been things that he (Maurice Steijn, ed.) did not do well, but I do sympathize with Sem. I think that is very good.”

Kraay personally spoke to the young Steijn about his father's situation. “I stood here in the hallway with him when we were shooting a commercial for ESPN. Then I said to him, 'How do you stay so stoic?' He said he couldn't isolate himself from that at all.”

“He said: 'I am so angry with so many people at Ajax. My father has kept me awake so sad,'” Kraay quotes from the Twente player. “I was really shocked by that. I experienced the same thing when my father was kicked out of Ajax.”

Maurice Steijn was fired by Ajax on October 23, a day after the 4-3 away loss to FC Utrecht. The club held the Hague coach responsible for the historically poor start to the season.

Under Steijn's leadership, Ajax dropped to last place in the Eredivisie. The defeat against Utrecht was the eighth match in a row that the Amsterdam team did not win. The upward trajectory has now begun under interim coach John van 't Schip.
