Giovanni van Bronckhorst looks back on a pleasant collaboration with Dave Vos during his period at Rangers, the former says in conversation with ESPN. The currently clubless coach and the current coach of Jong Ajax spent more than a year together in the dug-out in Scotland before Van Bronckhorst was fired. Gio is full of praise for Vos, who may make the move to Ajax 1 in the summer.

“I immediately had a good feeling about Dave,” Van Bronckhorst begins. “We first talked a lot about football and how he saw things. I got to know him well as a trainer. I had also heard good stories from the Ajax training. Then you see if it is something and whether he can come along.”

Together, Van Bronckhorst and Vos won the Scottish Cup and reached the 2022 Europa League final. Eintracht Frankfurt proved too strong after penalties. “Vos was responsible for the analyzes of the opponent, together with the video analyst Yöri Bosschaart and the other assistants,” explains Gio Vos's role during his time at Ibrox.

These analyzes were of a high level, says Van Bronckhorst. “He really checked out the Europa League opponents and worked out everything in detail. Where our opportunities lay and where the danger lay. He did that at all matches. That experience at Rangers in the Europe and Champions League has helped him in his development.”

“I once discussed with him for an hour and a half about when Scott Arfield should come in and which passing lines he should keep closed,” the clubless trainer continues with a laugh. “He was that committed to preparing us as accurately as possible.” Van Bronckhorst is very pleased with Vos. “He is very involved in everything and was a good support for me.”

“He is a fun boy to work with and he is also that towards his players. His way of training is very good. You have to make players better and you saw that in him. It was a very nice collaboration,” he said Gio. Van Bronckhorst is of the opinion that Vos should be given space by the head coach if he becomes an assistant at Ajax or another first team.

“Then he comes into his strength. He needs a trainer who will wrestle with him and from there come up with a good plan. He has to keep pushing the bar. He is also someone who can always do that. Ultimately, he decides where his ceiling is,” concludes Van Bronckhorst.

'Coaching matches in the ArenA is a dream'

Vos responded on Monday evening ESPN on a possible step as an assistant to the Ajax first team. The trainer of the Amsterdam team's promises said that it is a dream to one day coach his matches in the Johan Cruijff ArenA.

“I have been a trainer for almost twenty years. I have followed a different route than others who come from professional football,” said Vos. “I joined Ajax in 2009 and briefly went to Rangers. There we played a Europa League final and won the cup. Then I had a taste of it. So it is clear that there are ambitions. I have said before: I want to coach my matches in the Johan Cruijff ArenA one day and be successful with this club.”
