Davy Klaassen and Virgil van Dijk have words of praise for Andries Noppert. The goalkeeper kept his goal clean on his debut in the Dutch in the opening game of the World Cup against Senegal (0-2). Noppert managed to distinguish himself positively in the second half with a strong save on a low slider by substitute Idrissa Gueye.
Noppert, the surprising debutant on the the Dutch side against Senegal, made an excellent impression with a number of excellent saves. After the difficult opening match of the Netherlands at the World Cup in Qatar, the closing post could count on many compliments. “He’s also such a great boy”, Davy Klaassen said with a smile General Journal. “He is just a really nice guy, who can not only keep well, but who also really adds something to this group off the field. He’s just completely himself. Everyone loves him very much.”
Virgil van Dijk also praised Noppert. The captain of the Dutch is particularly pleased with the personality of the sc Heerenveen goalkeeper. Van Dijk showed no nerves with the debuting closing post, who seemed to have been included as a penalty killer beforehand, but managed to keep Justin Bijlow and Remko Pasveer on the bench. “I don’t know if you know Noppert a bit?” Van Dijk said rhetorically. “That boy is so down to earth. You just can’t get any more down-to-earth.”
Noppert himself also looked back with pride on his debut in the Dutch. “This was very special,” Noppert told reporter Jeroen Stekelenburg of the NOS. “Of course you dream about this. Always as a little boy, but later you don’t assume it anymore. Certainly not with how my career has turned out. But if it can happen under one man, it’s under Louis van Gaal. I think we are similar in many ways. We have the same humor and think the same about many things. It tastes like more. I never think about the things I say. That is not always smart in this world, but it makes me sincere and I think the trainer appreciates that.”
