Romelu Lukaku is not exactly welcomed with open arms by the hard core of Internazionale. Sky Italy reported on Tuesday that i Nerazzurri put on the table a rent of eight million euros (excluding bonuses) to rent the 29-year-old striker from the Blues, who last summer paid 115 million euros to Inter for the Belgian. The Curva Nord speaks clearly in an open letter about the upcoming return of Lukaku. “We’re not going to drool after him.”

Last year, Lukaku forced a top transfer to Chelsea with all his might, but the attacker then flopped completely in London. The supporters have not yet forgotten the way in which the Belgian left Inter at the time. In an open letter, the Curva North expresses itself about the arrival of Lukaku. “We will not oppose the arrival of Lukaku (despite his behavior last summer). But we will not welcome him with scarves or banners. Everything we do for him in the future, he will have to earn on the pitch with humility and sweat.”

“He used to be a king, now someone like many others,” the hard core said. “Let’s be clear that we will never support Lukaku, but we will not salivate behind him either. We have not forgotten Lukaku’s betrayal and are still upset.” The Belgian international flirted during last season’s winter transfer window in an interview with Sky Italy already with a return to Inter.

At the time, Inter’s fanatical supporters reacted to the Belgian’s flirtation via a banner. “Those who escape when it rains don’t count,” the banner read. “Those who stay when it storms count.” Lukaku admitted in the interview that he fondly remembers his time at Inter, for which he played two seasons. Lukaku was one of the great stars in the 2020/21 season in the team that won Inter’s first league title in eleven years. The fact that the striker subsequently switched to Chelsea made him absolutely unpopular with the supporters of i Nerazzurri, he realized. “First of all I would like to apologize to the fans of Inter because I think the way I left should have been different.”
