Peter Bosz undoubtedly imagined a slightly better start as trainer of Olympique Lyon. The coach remained without a win in the first two competition matches and has to start immediately so as not to let the atmosphere change. Amid the sporting malaise, the club management decided to return former PSV player Marcelo to the second team after a very unfortunate performance against Angers (3-0 loss). Supporters of the club showed their displeasure during training on Friday with a banner, which Bosz wholeheartedly agrees with.

Bosz let his frustrations run wild last weekend after an embarrassing 3-0 defeat at Angers. “What did we do when we were on the ball? Nothing. We did nothing at all, we didn’t play fast, really nothing,” Bosz said. L’Equipe. “Of course it worries me, it drives me crazy. There were supporters today who came from far, but what have we given the supporters? Nothing, nothing at all. We can talk about the defense or the individual mistakes, but football starts with mentality and wanting to win. You have to give one hundred percent, I didn’t see that in my team.”

Bosz’s words were reinforced by Lyon’s supporters, who visited the club’s training complex on Friday. The fans put up a banner with the words Bougez-vous ou cassez-vousie: pick yourself up or leave. “I completely agree with that,” Bosz said on Friday during the press conference in the run-up to the home game against Clermont. “It’s not easy to change the mentality. But we played a practice match on Friday, worked really hard and from what I saw the players understood it.”

The big schlemiel against Angers was Marcelo. The defender made a hopeless mistake with a wrong pass and outwitted his own goalkeeper. Lyon club management decided the defender to return his unprofessional attitude to the second team. “I hope it does something for the players, because he is a colleague of theirs,” said Bosz. “The club made the decision, but I agreed. I said it on Sunday: football starts with the right mentality. I spoke with the players, but normally I wouldn’t have had to do that. That’s the basis I have seen progress in training this week.”
