Grétar Steinsson is also on the shortlist of candidates to become PSV’s new technical director, it knows Eindhovens Dagblad. After his career as a professional football player, the former right back of AZ, among others, has built up a considerable track record when it comes to technical football management. Steinsson could be the successor of John de Jong, who unexpectedly resigned in September.

Steinsson played for AZ between 2006 and 2008 and played 46 times for the Icelandic national team in his career. After his player retirement, Steinsson obtained a diploma as technical director with the English Football Association (FA). Steinsson did an internship at AZ for a few months in 2015 and then worked for three years as technical director of England’s Fleetwood Town, playing in the League Two.

From 2018, the former defender was associated with Everton as Head of Recruitment and Development for three years. Since July this year, he has been working as Performance Director for Tottenham Hotspur, a role in which he is involved in technical policy. Steinsson is also involved with the Icelandic Football Association as a technical advisor.

Just like Ajax, PSV is thinking of a two-man team for the succession of De Jong, wrote The Telegraph Wednesday morning. Chris Woerts knew Tuesday evening Today Inside Already to report that Jordy Zuidam of FC Utrecht is in the picture for the position and according to the newspaper, the name of Mark-Jan Fledderus (FC Groningen) has also fallen. PSV hopes to solve it internally in the first instance.

Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink and Ernest Faber are the main candidates when it comes to an internal solution. Vennegoor of Hesselink is technical manager in Eindhoven and acted as a link between De Jong and the youth academy. He actually wanted to show solidarity with De Jong and also leave, but he convinced him to stay at PSV. Faber has already held many positions in the Philips Stadium and recently followed a ‘special course’ for a management position.
