Mason Greenwood is officially a player of Olympique Marseille. According to Fabrizio Romano, the French will pay a fixed sum of 26 million euros to Manchester United, who can earn another 5 million in bonuses and have also negotiated a resale percentage of fifty percent.

Negotiations between Marseille and Manchester United have been going well for some time, so it was questionable when the transfer of the Englishman would be officially sealed. That is now the case: Greenwood signs a five-year contract at Stade Vélodrome.

On Tuesday it was already announced that Greenwood had reached an agreement with Marseille. The attacker blossomed last season at Getafe. With 8 goals and 6 assists in LaLiga, the 22-year-old Greenwood made a significant contribution to the club's twelfth place.

Greenwood returned to Manchester after his loan spell in Spain, where he had no future despite a contract until mid-2025. This had everything to do with the alleged assault and rape of his girlfriend Harriet Robson. Robson has since withdrawn all charges against Greenwood and she is back together with him.

If it had been up to the mayor of Marseille, the controversial transfer to THE OVER never happened. “I don't want my club to be drenched in shame,” Mayor Benoît Payan recently said on radio station RMC. Payan asked club president Pablo Longoria not to sign Greenwood, but that now appears to be in vain. Some of the Marseille supporters were also against the arrival of Greenwood.

In addition to Marseille, Benfica, Borussia Dortmund, Juventus, Napoli and Lazio have also been linked with the arrival of Greenwood. Lazio in particular has recently hoped to profit if the deal with Marseille were to fall through, but the Italians have missed out.

At Marseille, Greenwood will have to deal with Roberto De Zerbi as head coach. The Italian, who is praised for his playing style, left despite a current contract with Brighton & Hove Albion. The expectation was that he could sign for a top club, but nothing could be further from the truth when De Zerbi went to sea with Marseille.
