Mason Greenwood has had a secret meeting with some Manchester United teammates, reports The Sun. The attacker has not played football for more than a year because of a previous charge of attempted rape and assault against his ex-girlfriend. That charge was dropped this month, sparking discussion about a possible return. Manager Erik ten Hag is also said to have already spoken to Greenwood. There is division within the group of players.

Greenwood was arrested last January after allegations of rape and sexual assault against his ex-girlfriend. Two weeks ago, however, the Public Prosecutor’s Office in England announced that later charges had been dropped after ‘key figures’ went back on their confessions. In England, the discussion has flared up as to whether the attacker can return to Manchester United. However, there is division within the group of players about whether he can still wear the shirt.

One source disagrees The Sun stated that Greenwood has contacted some of his teammates to tell his side of the story. The players would have heard this. It is unknown which players were present at the secret meeting. It is known that there were a number of players that he already knows from the youth academy. “They have met him privately to listen to him so that they can make their own decision about whether he can return,” the tabloid newspaper adds.

United has already indicated that it is conducting an internal investigation. Greenwood is not allowed to train and play until then. The Englishman is also said to have contacted other teammates via social media. Ten Hag does not benefit from possible unrest, as he and his team are in a good flow. Have in-house the Mancunians an unbeaten run of sixteen games. In addition, the team is still in the race for the title, FA Cup, EFL Cup and Europa League. Ten Hag has reportedly spoken to Greenwood about his mental and physical condition.

Some players have expressed clear question marks over whether Greenwood can return. Others have no objection to it. Especially from United’s women’s team, more and more sounds are coming through that a return of the attacker is not negotiable. Greenwood joined United at the age of 16 and made his debut in the 2019 Champions League against Paris Saint-Germain. In September 2020 he played his only international match on behalf of the national team.
