Ryan Gravenberch is certainly not sad about the resignation of Julian Nagelsmann as coach of Bayern Munich, reports Sports1. Gravenberch would have been at odds with Nagelsmann, who was particularly dissatisfied with the poor defensive work of the twenty-year-old midfielder. The former Ajax player goes under Thomas Tuchel, Nagelsmann’s successor, for a new chance at Bayern.

Bayern’s technical management was delighted last summer with the signing of Gravenberch, who is believed to have a golden future. Once arrived in Bavaria, however, things did not go well between the midfielder and Nagelsmann, who also started in the summer the record master. Gradenberch gradually became more and more out of the picture during the season and only played twenty minutes in the last five games.

Nagelsmann made some hard reproaches to Gravenberch: the midfielder would be too casual and do too little work in the back. In addition, he would not keep the balance in midfield sufficiently. The first problems for Gravenberch arose in mid-October in the group stage of the Champions League against Viktoria Plzen (2-4 win), when he came on in the 56th minute with a 0-4 lead. With Gravenberch in the team, Bayern gave away two more goals, which Nagelsmann looked at emphatically.

The now coach lost confidence in Gravenberch as a controlling midfielder and has since almost only used the youngster at number 10. Gravenberch, however, does not feel comfortable in that place and has hardly managed to leave his mark. The midfielder was frustrated by Louis van Gaal for the World Cup in Qatar.

In January, Gravenberch was further under pressure at Bayern. The midfielder agreed with Nagelsmann in advance to play the full test match against Red Bull Salzburg (4-4), in which Daley Blind made his unofficial debut. Gravenberch, however, saw the board with his back number appear after an hour of play. Nagelsmann was furious about Gravenberch’s nonchalant running back when the ball was lost. Since then he only started twice under Nagelsmann.
