FSV Mainz 05 and Hertha BSC booked a victory in the Bundesliga on Sunday afternoon. The former club is approaching the top four thanks to the 0-1 win, while the team from Berlin was 0-2 too strong for FC Augsburg and thus booked the first league win of this season. Aarón Martín of FSV Mainz 05 gave his team the three points with a great free kick.

Borussia Monchengladbach – FSV Mainz 05 0-1
The away team shot out of the starting blocks and was almost accurate twice in the first ten minutes. Yann Sommer kept his team in the game twice by making a save on shots from Silvan Widmer and Leandro Barreiro. Jonathan Burkardt also fired on the Swiss goalkeeper’s goal, but his volley went just wide. Marcus Thuram of Borussia Mönchengladbach saw his shot from close range then blocked by Robin Zentner, making the halftime score 0-0. Shortly after the break, the home team had to continue with ten men after Ko Itakura was sent off with a red card. The free kick that followed was then fantastically shot in by Aarón Martín: 0-1.

FC Augsburg – Hertha BSC 0-2
Jeffrey Gouweleeuw started in the base with the home team, while Jean-Paul Boëtius would come in for Hertha BSC half an hour before the end. The biggest chance of the first half came from FC Augsburg’s Mergim Berisha. The German attacker was close to the opening goal, but hit the post with his effort. Chidera Ejuke, ex-player of sc Heerenveen, almost hit the mark for Hertha BSC ten minutes before half time after a nice move. His shot went just a few inches wide. More than fifteen minutes after the break, Hertha BSC took the lead via Dodi Lukebakio. Marvin Plattenhardt served the attacker with a great pass, who then headed in: 0-1. In the 93rd minute, the team from Berlin put the final score on the board. After a counterattack, Davie Selke only went after keeper Rafal Gikiewicz and then gave the assist to Marco Richter: 0-2.
