Goalkeeper Maarten Paes will most likely continue his career in Major League Soccer, knows, among other things General Newspaper. The closing post has ended up on a side track at FC Utrecht and may leave for FC Dallas from Texas, in the United States. It would be a lease, although the clubs also seem to be talking about a purchase option.

After the first half of the season, Paes was told by trainer René Hake that he will no longer be the first goalkeeper at Utrecht after the winter break. The coach has announced that he will choose 21-year-old Fabian de Keijzer under the bar for the time being. Paes does not seem to see anything in a role as second keeper at the Domstedelingen and would have aimed for a departure. At FC Dallas, the closing post gets the chance to breathe new life into his career.

Earlier this transfer period, Utrecht already sold Adrián Dalmau to Sparta Rotterdam and Nick Venema was loaned out to VVV-Venlo. In addition, Benaissa Benamar was kept at FC Volendam, which rents the defender. If the Volendammer enforces a promotion, the rental period will automatically be converted into a definitive transfer. Paes may therefore be added to that list soon, while Utrecht plans to bring back goalkeeper Thijmen Nijhuis, who has been loaned out to MVV Maastricht.

In the summer of 2018, Paes made the switch from NEC Nijmegen to Utrecht. In the Domstad he started at Jong FC Utrecht, after which he was added to the first team from the 2019/20 season. Due to a concussion, among other things, he only played eight official games in the Eredivisie in the following season. In the current football season, Paes played 17 Eredivisie matches, in which he kept 5 times clear and conceded 23 goals.
