Lazio and Atlético Madrid started their Champions League campaign with a draw on Tuesday evening. Pablo Barrios seemed to give the Madrilenians the full spoils with a deflected shot, but Lazio closing post Ivan Provedel headed the 1-1 against the ropes deep in injury time. Feyenoord was too strong for Celtic in the same group with 2-0.
The Champions League match between Atlético and Lazio also became a duel between proven goalscorers. In the absence of the injured Memphis Depay, Alvaro Morata formed a striker pair with Antoine Griezmann for the Spaniards, while Ciro Immobile was the attack leader of i Biancocelesti used to be.

However, the Italian striker then shot straight at Atlético’s closing post.
Halfway through the second half, it was Lazio that swerved after Morata hit the post with a deflected shot. Marcos Llorente had a great opportunity twenty minutes before the end to put the visitors in a safe haven, but he encountered Provodel who quickly reduced his goal. The same Provedel became Lazio’s great hero deep into injury time by heading Luis Alberto’s cross hard against the ropes: 1-1.
