Go Ahead Eagles has strengthened itself with Iñigo Córdoba, the club from Deventer announces through the official channels. The 24-year-old winger is on loan from Athletic Club until the end of the season, where he has been under contract for his entire career so far. As a result, Córdoba already has 87 games in LaLiga to his name.

“Iñigo is a dynamic winger. In addition, he has quite a bit of experience at the highest level in Spain. He is a player who is goal-oriented, especially through the combination”, explains technical director Paul Bosvelt on the Go Ahead Eagles website. Córdoba is leaving Athletic Club for the third time on a rental basis, having previously played temporarily for CD Basconia and Alavés.

After Marc Cardona, who came over from Osasuna, Córdoba is the second Spanish summer addition to Go Ahead Eagles. “No, I didn’t know Marc personally. My brother Asier did, since he played together with Marc at Osasuna. I did have telephone contact with Marc before I finally decided to go to Go Ahead Eagles. Marc was only positive about the club,” says the former youth international for Spain. He also has ten games in the Europa League for Athletic Club.

Córdoba sees similarities between Athletic Club and Go Ahead Eagles. “They are both family clubs. I only expect that the game in the Netherlands will be different. In Spain it is more tactical, in the Netherlands it is played more directly towards the goal. Fine, because I like going straight for the target. Keeping Go Ahead Eagles in the Eredivisie is the main goal this season. Contributing to that with goals and assists is my personal goal.”
