Santiago Giménez does not seem to be working on a departure from Feyenoord at all. The 21-year-old striker would, according to the Portuguese Record as a candidate successor to Gonçalo Ramos at Benfica, but knows nothing about it. Giménez, who is still committed to De Kuip until mid-2026, says during a press conference from Mexico that he is happy at Feyenoord.

Giménez has been the man in shape at Feyenoord in recent weeks and that would have opened eyes in Portugal. The Mexican press confronted the left leg with the interest, but he says he has had no official contact. “To be honest, I don’t know anything. I heard about it through social media. The truth is that I am happy at Feyenoord. It’s up to the clubs and my family. Other than that, I leave it to God. He is the one who determines my path. The decisions I make go through God.”

Giménez came over from the Mexican CD Cruz Azul last summer. General manager Dennis te Kloese confirmed the opposite NRC that Feyenoord had initially taken over only fifty percent of Giménez’s transfer rights. The director did not want to drop a precise transfer fee, although the amount is lower than the aforementioned four million euros. Due to contractual agreements, the Rotterdammers now own more than sixty percent of Giménez’s transfer rights.

The summer acquisition is increasingly making headway in South Rotterdam. After his transfer, Giménez was slowly brought by trainer Arne Slot and has been appearing more and more on the score sheet in recent weeks. Currently, the counter stands at fifteen hits in 34 matches across all competitions. During the Classic last weekend (2-3 win), the Mexican was still good for the opening goal, while he also broke through the glasses three days earlier against Shakhtar Donetsk (7-1 win).

Seville
The Mexican branch of Mark linked the striker to a transfer to Seville at the beginning of this month. His father, Christian Giménez, then appeared on television to talk about the rumor. Giménez senior, who himself played five international matches for Mexico in the past, believes that his son should stay in De Kuip. “We want him to stay with Feyenoord, we are happy with the club. It’s a very big club!” This week, Giménez will play two international matches with the Mexican team. A Nations League game with Suriname in Paramaribo awaits on Thursday night, followed by a home game in Mexico City against Jamaica on Sunday night.
