The fact that Jordan Henderson was greeted shortly after his arrival at Ajax by, among others, interim director of general affairs Jan van Halst, makes René van der Gijp and Johan Derksen laugh. The midfielder showed a bare torso during the medical examination when he shook hands with Van Halst and trainer John van 't Schip.

“That is his great example (of Henderson, ed.), Wilfred, I'm sure,” Van der Gijp jokes on Friday in Today Inside in conversation with Wilfred Genee. “That man (Van Halst, ed.) Of course he thinks that's great,” adds the equally amused Derksen.

The video on YouTube shows how Henderson was picked up from Schiphol by player supervisor Herman Pinkster, after which he underwent a medical examination at Sportpark De Toekomst. While doing some medical tests, the first meeting with trainer John van 't Schip also took place. Ajax's coach immediately noticed that Henderson looks very fit.

Afterwards, Henderson was prepared for the presentation and gave his first interview Ajax TV and was given a tour of the stadium by head scout Kelvin de Lang, who also temporarily serves as director of football affairs.

Van der Gijp
“But those guys like Benzema, Henderson and you name them all. They should actually call Jan Boskamp before they go to that desert,” Van der Gijp continues in a serious tone. “Because why are you going? Yes, purely and solely for the money. It's 40 degrees there, you can't play football in it. And there are no dogs in three quarters of the stadiums. There are 150 people.”

“And if you get 500,000 euros transferred every week, what does that matter to you? There are four top players there, the rest don't care,” the football analyst is not exactly impressed by the level in Saudi Arabia. “So when the others have the ball, you don't have to present yourself. You only have to present yourself when the other three have the ball.”

“But you know that. You know that, right?”, speaks Gibe expresses his surprise again. “A 33-year-old boy has a family with children. If his wife is complaining all day about how hot it is, you get tired of that bullshit,” Derksen understands why Henderson left Al-Ettifaq.
