Feyenoord assumes that Gernot Trauner will need just under six months to recover from his knee injury. The thirty-year-old Austrian could even have played his last game of this season, Arne Slot said at the Feyenoord press conference on Friday. “If he can participate in a few more duels, it would already be a win for me,” said the trainer of the team from Rotterdam.

“So we hope that he will be on the field a few more times at the end of the season,” Slot continued. “That is really what they are working towards, but practice also shows that you sometimes experience a delay of one or two weeks.” Trauner dropped out of training at the end of December with knee problems. Feyenoord is not allowed to give details due to privacy legislation, but the center defender himself recently revealed in a statement that it concerns a meniscus injury.

Trauner himself mentioned a period of two to three months within which he wants to be fit again. “I am therefore convinced that I will take action this season”, the Austrian sounded hopeful. It will be fitting and measuring for Slot on Sunday to make a line-up for the resumption of the Eredivisie against FC Utrecht. The trainer indicated at the press conference that left-footed Jacob Rasmussen could possibly play in the back right to make up for the loss of Trauner. Lutsharel Geertruida can also play there, but he may be needed in midfield. Mats Wieffer was injured in that line this week.

Feyenoord also has to miss Quinten Timber for a long time. The midfielder was seriously injured on December 28 in the exhibition match against FC Emmen. Slot estimates the seriousness of that injury to be less serious than with Trauner. “With Quinten Timber, I have more than average hope that he will really come into action for us this season. I have absolutely not written him off for the second half of the season. I expect to see him very often, to be honest. But then Everything should go well in his recovery.”
