Borussia Dortmund could have done a lot worse in the Champions League draw than a diptych with PSV. At least that is the opinion of the German media after it became known those Boruses would have to compete against the Eindhoven team.

BILD compares the meeting in the round of 16 with the group stage of the current number five of Germany, where it came first in the 'group of death' with Paris Saint-Germain, AC Milan and Newcastle United.

“Dortmund received a relatively easy draw,” the newspaper writes. 'Lucky tickets', so labeled BILD the draw for the two German teams. Bayern Munich will meet Lazio, the current number 11 of Serie A.

“Bayern and Dortmund can probably live well with this draw.” The excellent start to the season of the Eindhoven team did not fly under the radar of our neighbors, but the draw still offers perspective, or so they think in Germany.

“PSV is first in the Eredivisie without losing points, but does not fall into the category of Paris St. Germain, Naples or Inter.” Sports1 speaks of a 'feasible card' and Lothar Matthaüs can also live with the draw.

Bee Sky Sports he comments on the European poster. “Internazionale, Napoli and FC Porto are names of a different caliber. PSV is a more difficult task for Borussia Dortmund than Lazio is for Bayern Munich,” he compares the German teams.

“If you look at the position in the group stage, in that tough group with Paris Saint-Germain, Newcastle United and Milan in which Dortmund came first, they are favorites against PSV.” Sebastian Kehl, former Dortmund player and current technical director, speaks of an 'attractive and challenging' draw.

“We look forward to seeing our former trainer Peter Bosz again,” Kehl is quoted on club channels. “We go into these matches very optimistic and full of self-awareness.”

Earnest Stewart response
Earnest Stewart, technical director at PSV, is also pleased with the draw. “A wonderful draw,” he says. “It's quite close, it's great for our supporters. When you know that Man City was also in it at the end, you want to avoid them for a while…”
