Gerard Pique couldn’t help but joke about Kylian Mbappe’s transfer to Real Madrid. The Barcelona defender, who is very active on social media, published a screenshot of an article from the Spanish sports newspaper marca from a few days ago about the possible shirt number for the attacker, as soon as he makes the switch from Paris Saint-Germain to Madrid.

The somewhat premature publication of marca has the title: ¿Que dorsal llevara Mbappe? Las tres opciones para el frances, in other words: ‘Which jersey number will Mbappé wear? The three options for the Frenchman’. Pique, who likes to poke fun at the arch-rival from Madrid, dryly adds “number 7” to his Twitter post, referring to the Frenchman’s well-known PSG jersey number, while the paper assumed it was 5, 19 or 23 at would become Real Madrid.

Pique’s joke is popular: at the time of writing, the post has already received 110,000 likes. The possible transfer from Mbappé to Real Madrid grew into a real soap, especially in the closing days of the transfer market. The Spanish top club made a third offer of no less than two hundred million euros for the attacker on Tuesday, but the board of the Parisians did not even respond to the proposal of chairman Florentino Pérez. In exactly ten months, Mbappé will be transfer-free and from January 1 he can enter into a conversation with other clubs.

Le Parisien previously reported that Mbappe mainly wants to go to Real Madrid for sporting reasons. If he had accepted PSG’s latest contract offer, he could have earned as much as €45 million a year until the summer of 2024. Real Madrid cannot afford such a salary. The Spanish top club can come up with a construction whereby a sign premium is paid. It can certainly not be ruled out that PSG will continue to make attempts to capture the attacker for longer.
