Paris Saint-Germain and AS Roma have reached an agreement on the transfer of Georginio Wijnaldum, reports it General Newspaper. The midfielder still has to pass the medical examination. Wijnaldum is taken over on a rental basis and can then make the final move to Rome. The Roma board has the option to definitively take over Wijnaldum from PSG next year for between ten and fifteen million euros, where his contract will continue for two more seasons.

Roma can, incidentally, not cough up Wijnaldum’s annual salary of nine million euros, so that PSG will take care of half of that next season. Wijnaldum can make his official debut for his new club on August 14. Roma will start the new season in the Serie A that day on a visit to Salernitana. The international of the Dutch national team is the fifth acquisition of coach José Mourinho for the 2022/23 season after Paulo Dybala, Nemanja Matic, Zeki Celik and Mile Svilar.

Wijnaldum’s first season at PSG was quite difficult, as the now departed Mauricio Pochettino had no permanent place for him in the midfield of the Paris superpower. The situation did not improve with the arrival of Christophe Galtier as the new coach at the Parc des Princes. Wijnaldum was not included in PSG’s selection for the training camp in Japan and in the meantime was working on a departure from the French capital. It General Newspaper now reports that the clubs have agreed.

Wijnaldum was also recently associated with a return to PSV, but a few months before the World Cup in Qatar, the midfielder is starting a new adventure in Rome. The veteran played for Feyenoord, Newcastle United and Liverpool earlier in his career. At Roma, last season too strong for Feyenoord in the final of the Conference League, Wijnaldum will have to deal with compatriots Rick Karsdorp and Justin Kluivert, although the latter is nominated to be sold this summer.
