Spain recorded a childishly simple victory over Costa Rica on Wednesday: 7-0. The Spaniards therefore had a great start to the World Cup, as Germany surprisingly lost 1-2 to Japan earlier in the afternoon. LaRoja therefore only leads in Group E. The Spanish goals were scored by Ferran Torres (2x), Dani Olmo, Marco Asensio, Gavi, Carlos Soler and Álvaro Morata. Gavi made history and was responsible for the best goal of the evening.

National coach Luis Enrique surprisingly chose to start with Rodri as center back. At Manchester City, the 26-year-old right leg usually plays as a defensive midfielder. In midfield, the choice lord made a base place for Gavi, who wrote history on Wednesday. At eighteen years and 110 days old, the Barcelona midfielder is the youngest Spaniard ever to play in a final tournament. Paris Saint-Germain keeper Keylor Navas was the best known name in the Costa Rica side.

LaRoja in Doha had no child in Costa Rica. Olmo opened the score in the eleventh minute. The RB Leipzig midfielder, who plays as a winger for Spain, was somewhat lucky to get the ball and then cold-bloodedly outwit Navas. Less than ten minutes later, Marco Asensio doubled the score by placing a sharp cross from Jordi Alba in the far corner: 2-0. In the first half, Spain’s possession percentage spoke volumes: no less than 85 percent.

Spain closed the match before the break. Costa Rica defender Óscar Duarte allowed Alba to tempt him into a foul, after which Torres was allowed to start from the penalty spot. Face to face with Navas, the Barça attacker did not fail: 3-0. After the break, Torres was soon allowed to make his second: in the 54th minute he turned away from his opponent, and then immediately finished successfully. The most beautiful goal was from Gavi. After a good cross from Morata, the midfielder shot the ball with the outside on the right via the post behind the hopeless Navas: 5-0. Because of his goal, Gavi is the youngest goalscorer at a World Cup since Pelé in 1958. Soler (rebound) and Morata (unsustainable shot) then scored a monster score: 7-0.
