Gareth Bale will continue his career at Los Angeles FC, Fabrizio Romano and The Athletic known on Saturday afternoon. The Welshmen will transfer Real Madrid to the Major Soccer League on a free transfer and will sign a contract until mid-2023. Bale is the second European signing for LAFC, which previously strengthened itself with Giorgio Chiellini.

Bale’s decision comes somewhat out of the blue, as the BBC last Thursday reported that the wing striker had started talks with Cardiff City. He is said to have visited the training complex and also spoke to manager Steve Morison. An agreement with the Championship club had not yet been reached.

Bale recently announced his retirement from Real in an emotional letter, after nine seasons in the service of the Champions League winner. The 32-year-old player can now choose another club with a transfer-free status. Bale has already been linked with a return to Tottenham Hotspur, while there are also rumors of him opting for an MLS adventure. Because of the qualification for the World Cup in Qatar, Bale is not yet putting an end to his career, he recently announced after the 1-0 victory over Ukraine in the play-offs for a World Cup ticket.
