Galatasaray did what it had to do on Sunday afternoon. For their own audience, the team of trainer Fatih Terim was too strong for Konyaspor with 1-0. The only goal of the game was scored in the fourth minute and went to Mostafa Mohamed. With the win, the Turkish top club climbs to fifth place in the ranking.

Konyaspor immediately put high pressure and tried to make the build-up impossible for Galatasaray. Fernando Muslera, however, found the free man in midfield, after which Mohamed was sent into the depths. Due to miscommunication between Konyaspor goalkeeper Ibrahim Sehic and his rear guard, the Egyptian attacker was able to make the 1-0 with the ball in an empty goal. It was Mohamed’s third league goal this season.

Galatasaray, where Patrick van Aanholt started from the base and remained standing for ninety minutes, did not have an easy time with Konyaspor, which frequently had the ball, especially after the break. Fernando Muslera had to play more than once. Partly due to the good performance of the Uruguayan goalkeeper, a loss of points was prevented on Sunday afternoon. Bench seat Ryan Babel was given half an hour of playing time. The substitute was unable to do anything offensively.

With seventeen points from nine games, Galatasaray is provisionally fifth. The gap on leader Fenerbahce is two points, although the arch-rival will play against Trabzonspor, the number two of the Turkish Süper Lig, on Sunday evening. Galatasaray can now prepare for the group stage of the Europa League, in which Lokomotiv Moscow is the opponent on Thursday.
