Donny van de Beek will probably only return to the football field after the next international match period, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer expects. The Manchester United manager gives an update at the press conference in the run-up to the Premier League game with West Ham United about the injury of the 23-year-old midfielder, who ‘needs a few more weeks’ to recover. That means that Van de Beek will probably have to cancel with Frank de Boer for the Dutch national team.

Just like Van de Beek, Paul Pogba and Juan Mata are still in the rag basket for the time being. “Things are going in the right direction, although they probably need a few more weeks to be able to participate again,” explains Solskjaer, who is still hoping for a medical windfall. “It would be nice if at least one of the three earlier, I am now very tight in the midfielders ”, said the coach, who has had to do without the three for almost a month.

De Boer has included Van de Beek in the pre-selection for the upcoming international period, when the the Dutch squad will consecutively face Turkey (March 24), Latvia (March 27) and Gibraltar (March 30). From the words of Solskjaer it becomes clear that there is little chance that the former Ajax player will play in the World Cup qualifying series. “I am sure he will be fit again at the beginning of April”, Solskjaer concludes.

Van de Beek’s last base place at the Red Devils dates back to February 9, when the midfielder participated for 73 minutes in the home game against West Ham United (1-0). Five days later, he took part in the game against West Bromwich Albion for eleven minutes (1-1), but then he never got off the bench. On behalf of the the Dutch squad, the midfielder last played in the Nations League game with Poland, which was completed on November 15 last year (1-2 win).
