There is a good chance that Vitesse will stay close to home in the search for a successor for Thomas Letsch. On Monday it was announced that the German is on his way to the Bundesliga, where he must succeed Thomas Reis at VfL Bochum. According to the General Newspaper Edward Sturing, Joseph Oosting, Dick Schreuder and Phillip Cocu are candidates to fill the vacant trainer vacancy in GelreDome.

Letsch’s departure from Vitesse seems to be a matter of time. The trainer himself is interested in a switch to the last of Germany, despite the fact that his contract in Arnhem will continue until mid-2023. Talks are currently being held by all parties involved to finalize a departure from Arnhem. If both clubs are out, Letsch’s move will be confirmed soon. At Bochum, the German coach will have to effect enforcement in the first instance.

It General Newspaper meanwhile suggests pressure about his succession and pushes four trainers forward with Sturing, Oosting, Schreuder and Cocu. Sturing already works at Vitesse, currently holds the position of head of training in Arnhem and has been active at the club several times as an interim trainer. He would be interested in the trainer position, but on a permanent basis. He no longer sees a role as interim trainer. In the past, Sturing also worked as an assistant and head coach at Vitesse.

Schreuder and Oosting are also no strangers to Vitesse. They both worked as assistants to Letsch, but still have an ongoing contract with PEC Zwolle and RKC Waalwijk respectively. Oosting will remain in Brabant until next summer, while Schreuder’s contract will continue until mid-2025. Cocu was active as a player for the Arnhem club between 1990 and 1995 and has been without a club since his dismissal from Derby County in November 2020.
