Fortuna Düsseldorf will almost certainly play in the Bundesliga next season. The number three of the Second Bundesliga won the first game in the play-offs for promotion and relegation on Thursday evening with 0-3 against VfL Bochum, the number sixteen of the Bundesliga. The return will take place in Düsseldorf on Monday at 8:30 PM.

Particularities:

On the Düsseldorf side, Vincent Vermeij and Jordy de Wijs were in the starting line-up, while a number of former Eredivisie players also kicked off at Bochum: Felix Passlack, Matús Bero and Maximilian Wittek.

After just under fifteen minutes, Düsseldorf fortunately took the lead. A corner hit the post, after which the ball rolled unluckily into the own goal via the body of Bochum striker Philipp Hofman: 0-1.

In the second half, Düsseldorf went further ahead thanks to goals from Felix Klaus and Yannik Engelhardt. The former scored after a quick break on a pass from former FC Twente player Christos Tzolis, after which Yannik Engelhardt scored the 0-3 final score from the rebound after a free kick. If Düsseldorf completes the job at home next Monday, it will play at the highest German level again next season for the first time since 2019/20.
