Girona recorded a comfortable win in LaLiga on Monday evening. At home, coach Míchel's team was too strong for Rayo Vallecano 3-0 thanks to a goal from Viktor Tsygankov and a double from former PSV player Sávio. Thanks to the victory, Girona passes Barcelona again in the rankings and the gap to the leader remains six points.

Although Girona was already the dominant team in the first half of the unexciting chess match, the opening goal was only found after halftime. Miguel Gutiérrez laid the ball on the penalty spot, where Tsygankov was ready to shoot in: 1-0.

Sávio found the liberating 2-0 in the 91st minute of play, when he scored on a pass from Pablo Torre. Ultimately, Sávio also scored a third goal. In the final second of the match, he cut in beautifully from the right side and almost shot the 3-0 against the ropes from the back line.

Rayo Vallecano ended the game with ten men, as Pep Chavarria was booked twice within a minute fifteen minutes before the end. Daley Blind was still struggling with a foot injury and was not included in the match selection.
