Dan-Axel Zagadou will play for VfB Stuttgart for the next four seasons, the German club reported on Monday via its official channels. The 23-year-old Frenchman ran out of his contract with Borussia Dortmund this summer, where the central defender was known for years as a top talent. At Stuttgart, the left leg will play with number 23.

Zagadou made his debut in 2017 at Dortmund, which was led by Peter Bosz at the time. The youth product of Paris Saint-Germain has since played 92 games for BVB, in which he scored four times and delivered two assists. With the German top club, Zagadou won both the German Cup and the Super Cup. After his breakthrough at Dortmund, he was linked to top clubs such as Arsenal and Manchester United, but it never came to a transfer.

Technical director Sven Mislintat is very satisfied with his newest addition. “Daxo has all the qualities a central defender needs to be at the top. He is athletically strong, can pass well and has gained valuable experience in recent years at both national and international level. He knows the Bundesliga and will therefore need little time to integrate with us. We are very happy that Daxo has chosen us and welcome him to VfB.”

Zagadou responds to his new employment at Stuttgart via the club website. “I am very happy to be here. For that I want everyone who is responsible with VfB thank you for the trust. I am looking forward to being on the field with my new teammates soon.” Stuttgart has not won a single game this season and is currently in 16th place in the Bundesliga.
