Georges Mikautadze has officially committed to Olympique Lyon, the club announced via official channels. The Georgian comes from FC Metz and signs a four-year contract with his new employer.

“Olympique Lyon proudly announces the return of Georges Mikautadze to the club of his heart”, opens les Gones their statement. The club also announced that it will transfer 18.5 million euros to FC Metz, the club that definitively acquired Mikautadze from Ajax this summer for 13 million euros.

Metz can also expect €4.5 million if certain bonus conditions are met. Lyon will also receive €1 million plus fifteen percent of the resale percentage if Mikautadze is sold to a new club before the end of his contract.

Lyon-born Mikautadze was part of Olympique's youth academy as a child, before seeking his fortune at Saint-Priest and eventually breaking into professional football at FC Metz. Lyon shares a video showing Mikautadze scoring goals for the club in the youth academy.

Ajax will ultimately make just over thirteen million euros from the Georgian international. Football International previously revealed that Ajax had negotiated a resale percentage of fifteen percent on the profit.

Mikautadze was brought in last summer with high expectations by then Ajax director Sven Mislintat. However, it turned out to be a fiasco. Mikautadze never managed to convince and shortly before the lost TOTO KNVB Cup match with Hercules he was told that he could leave.

Since Mikautadze had already played for Metz and Ajax that season, a temporary return to Metz was the only option. He flourished there, but despite his thirteen Ligue 1 goals, Metz were relegated to Ligue 2. Mikautadze continued his excellent form towards the European Championship, where Georgia managed to reach the last sixteen.
