Bayern Munich does not seem to be Edson Álvarez’s new club. Sky Sports Germany reports that on Friday evening the record master has decided to drop interest in the 25-year-old Ajax player. According to journalist Florian Plettenberg of the German medium, Bayern have other plans for central midfield.

Reported at the beginning of this week The Telegraph and Football International that Bayern had become involved in a fierce battle with Borussia Dortmund for the services of the Álvarez. On Friday it appears that Bayern has decided not to continue the interest in the Mexican. According to Plettenberg, Dortmund is still interested. Mike Verweij reported in the podcast on Friday Kick off by The Telegraph all that Dortmund is in pole position for Álvarez.

“But top clubs from England are still participating,” adds Plettenberg. “The 25-year-old is ready for the next step this summer. Ajax will let him go.” Plettenberg expects that there will be a price tag of up to fifty million euros on Álvarez. Last winter, Ajax was able to get 63 million euros for him from Chelsea. The management of Ajax did not agree with that.

Álvarez, who is still stuck in Amsterdam until mid-2025, was taken over by Ajax from the Mexican América in the summer of 2019 for fifteen million euros. Since then, the counter has stood at 145 games in all competitions, in which he managed to score 13 times and acted as a declarant 6 times. At Dortmund, Álvarez could be reunited with Sébastien Haller.
