Feyenoord can expect a hefty bill in the short term. Supporters of the Rotterdam club caused complete havoc in the stadium of the Austrians in the Europa League match with Sturm Graz at the end of October. The total damage is estimated to be between 250,000 and 300,000 euros. In the Merkur Arena, toilets and washbasins, among other things, were ripped from the wall and demolished. Shutters were also destroyed.

Gerald Pototschni is in talks on behalf of the management of the Merkur Arena with RTV Rijnmond told about the damage. “We estimate the damage at an amount between 250 and 300,000 euros,” said the Austrian. “The supporters broke down the shutters with karate kicks. Out of fear, the two ladies hid in a cupboard, while the supporters broke more. In the cupboard, the ladies also suffered from the pepper spray that the police sprayed at the rioters. They feared for their lives.”

Soon after the 1-0 loss, images appeared on the internet of the complete chaos in Graz. Feyenoord had to concede a goal in injury time, after which things got completely out of hand inside and outside the stadium. Toilets and sinks were ripped from the wall and broken down. Shards of broken plumbing were everywhere in the toilets. Seven Dutchmen were arrested around the duel by the Austrian police. An official report was drawn up against 28 Dutch people.

In total, about two thousand Feyenoord supporters traveled to the Europa League match. After the game, two Dutchmen were stabbed while on their way to their hotel. “We pay that bill and then present it to Feyenoord. If Feyenoord does not pay the bill, we will contact UEFA,” explains a spokesperson for Sturm Graz. The party that owns the stadium leased the stadium to Graz for the match against Feyenoord. It is not yet known whether Feyenoord will also be fined for setting off the fireworks.
