Feyenoord hopes to sign Wassim Essanoussi quickly, they know Algemeen Dagblad. The attacking midfielder and winger must join Feyenoord Under 21 in the short term, where he has successfully completed an internship in recent days. Essanoussi, who left Helmond Sport on a free transfer at the beginning of this month, hopes to revive his career in South Rotterdam after a real breakthrough failed to materialize at VVV-Venlo and Helmond.

Essanoussi was particularly known as a great talent in the youth academy of VVV. Hans de Koning made the left-footed debut in the Eredivisie at a very young age (16 years, 11 months and 26 days) during the historic defeat against Ajax (0-13) in 2020. In total, Essanoussi played 26 official matches for the Limburgers, in which he managed to score once and functioned as a referee twice. Last summer, the Morocco youth international made a transfer to Helmond Sport, the club from his hometown.

In De Braak Stadium, Essanoussi mainly had to make do with short substitute appearances. The technically skilled Helmond only played 647 minutes, spread over nineteen appearances. He did not score any goals or assists. It Algemeen Dagblad seems skeptical and speaks of a ‘spectacular move’ for Essanoussi, as he goes from a canceled contract with Helmond to a contract with the reigning national champions.

Both Feyenoord and Essanoussi want to complete the deal quickly. Both parties are still negotiating the length of the professional contract. The intention is for Essanoussi to quickly join the selection of trainer Melvin Boel, who was looking for boys with experience at a higher level. Feyenoord Under 21 already signed Timo Zaal and Joep van der Sluijs this summer. The former has three official matches on behalf of SC Heerenveen to his name, while Van der Sluijs has experience in the Kitchen Champion Division with NEC and TOP Oss. Feyenoord Under 21 managed to win the first match of the season against their peers from ADO Den Haag 3-0.
