Feyenoord continues to expect a summer departure from Steven Berghuis, despite an ongoing contract until mid-2022. Feyenoord Transfermarkt reports Tuesday afternoon that the Rotterdam club has designated Exequiel Zeballos as a possible successor. The only eighteen-year-old right-footed wing attacker is under contract with Boca Juniors until 2025. Feyenoord still has to officially report to the Argentinian top club, it sounds.

The technical management of Feyenoord, headed by technical director Frank Arnesen, is investigating the feasibility of Zeballos, which is estimated at five million euros, according to Transfermarkt. Argentina’s youth international has made five appearances in the main force of Boca Juniors so far. It is not yet known whether the Argentinians wish to cooperate in an interim departure of Zeballos, which will therefore remain in Buenos Aires for several years.

Various stories have been circulating about a possible departure of Berghuis for some time. The Feyenoord captain would have a special clause in his current commitment, which would allow him to leave De Kuip this summer for only four million euros. However, due to the financial consequences of the corona crisis, it remains to be seen whether clubs want to deposit such an amount for the now 29-year-old winger. Berghuis previously played abroad for Watford, although the English adventure was by no means a success.

Feyenoord often scans the Argentinian market. In 2019, Marcos Senesi was acquired from San Lorenzo for approximately seven million euros. The asking price of the defender recently mentioned at Napoli, AC Milan and Internazionale now seems to be above twenty million euros. In addition, Lucas Pratto was acquired on a rental basis from River Plate during the transfer window in January. However, the attacker has to settle for a supporting role in Rotterdam South for the time being.
