Wim Jansen suffers from dementia. The former Feyenoord football player reveals this in his book, which will be published next week in honor of his 75th birthday. The former trainer of the Rotterdammers had suspected for some time that something was wrong and therefore had an extensive investigation halfway through the corona crisis. Jansen is affected by an early form of dementia.

It General Newspaper writes on Saturday that the former international noticed that he increasingly had to ask his wife Cobie what day it was exactly. After Jansen had read the biography of former goalkeeper Piet Schrijvers, who suffers from Alzheimer’s disease, doubts set in and he had himself examined. The disease is in an early stage. For Jansen, good for 65 international matches, it is uncertain what the coming years will look like.

“How fast will it go?”, Jansen wonders in the book mastermind, which goes on sale Wednesday. Or will it stay as it is for a while? I want to enjoy our children and two grandchildren for as long as possible. We are still going to the home games of Feyenoord. In everything else I will have to make choices,” said Jansen, who will celebrate his 75th birthday on October 28.

Jansen won three national titles, the UEFA Cup and the KNVB Cup with Feyenoord. As a player, he came to 476 official games and 39 goals in all competitions for the Rotterdam team.
