Borussia Dortmund is interested in the services of Ian Maatsen, Germany knows BILD to report. The Dutchman is under contract with Chelsea, and has been loaned out to England’s Coventry City this season, which plays in the Championship. In addition to the German interest, Maatsen is reportedly also interested in Feyenoord. According to 1908a Twitter account affiliated with the usually reliable Feyenoord Transfermarktthe team from Rotterdam would have the left back on their wish list.
Dortmund is looking for a left back. The Schwarzgelben are said to have told left-back Nico Schulz that he can look for another club. The Spanish Mundo Deportivo previously reported that Raphaël Guerreiro has been offered to Barcelona, which made an attempt for the Portuguese international a number of years ago. Other candidates for the left-back position in Dortmund are Ramy Bensebaini of Borussia Monchengladbach and David Raum of Hoffenheim.
Feyenoord’s interest in twenty-year-old Maatsen should not come as a total surprise, since there is only one real left back in the selection of trainer Arne Slot with Tyrell Malacia. Ramon Hendriks is seen within the Feyenoord selection as a backup to the three-time international of the Dutch, but Hendriks, originally a central defender, did not go further than 426 minutes in 9 official matches for Feyenoord this season.
Maatsen put himself on the map in 2019 when he became European champion with the Netherlands Under 17. He was one of the goalscorers in the final against Italy (4-2). At the age of seven he was picked up by Feyenoord, but after a year he had to leave the Rotterdam team again, partly because he was too small. Maats then left for Sparta to make the step to Chelsea in 2018 via the PSV youth academy.
Maatsen still has a contract with Chelsea until mid-2024. In 2019, the youth international under Frank Lampard made his debut for the Londoners in the League Cup against Grimsby Town (7-1 win). It was his only appearance in Chelsea’s main squad so far, on loan to Charlton Athletic last season. This season, the twenty-year-old left back is loaned to Coventry City. In the Championship, Maatsen already played forty official duels, in which he was good for three goals and one assist.
