Feyenoord ran into the first loss of points of the season in De Kuip on Saturday evening. Arne Slot’s team started very promising against sc Heerenveen, but in the end did not succeed in chasing the ball against the ropes: 0-0. Heerenveen owed this in large part to Andries Noppert, who stood out with some excellent saves.

Slot chose the same eleven names in De Kuip as last week against Vitesse (2-5 win). Orkun Kökçü did return from injury and Santiago Giménez obtained a work permit, but both players only came on as substitutes in the second half. At Heerenveen, Kees van Wonderen switched to a 5-3-2 system, knowing that the Rotterdam team had problems with that more than once. Mats Köhlert, who is known as a left attacker, covered the entire left flank with the Frisians.

Feyenoord opened furiously and immediately became dangerous several times. Jacob Rasmussen’s header from a short corner kick in the second minute, while Marcus Pedersen was brilliantly set free seven minutes later by a through ball from Fredrik Aursnes. The occasional left back shot eye to eye with Andries Noppert wide. After that, Feyenoord’s storm abated and Heerenveen gained more control over the game.

The Frisians themselves didn’t get much further than a shot from Sydney van Hooijdonk and were lucky that Danilo just couldn’t get between a too short pass back from Joost van Aken on Noppert. The Feyenoord striker scored a week ago in Arnhem with an interception with the goalkeeper of the opposing team, but now saw his blocked ball end up next to the goal.

Feyenoord attacked after the break, but initially did not get Heerenveen in trouble. Instead, the team from Rotterdam got away very well after 66 minutes when Justin Bijlow went through a high corner. Van Aken had the chance, but aimed over. Bijlow then intervened on a shot by Amin Sarr, who had dribbled in the penalty area and fired a low shot.

Slot made an attacking change and inspired his team to create new opportunities. A blocked shot from Kökçü ended up exactly at Jens Toornstra in minute 86, who extended the ball just in front of the goal with a foot movement. Noppert made the save, and two minutes later he also made the save on a dangerous header by Gernot Trauner. Giménez had the winner on the shoe deep in injury time, but slipped over a pass from Javairô Dilrosun.
