The Alkmaarders thus managed to qualify directly for the eighth final of the Conference League, in which Fiorentina and Lazio, among others, are possible opponents. Heavyweights Villarreal, West Ham United and OGC Nice also won their respective groups, meaning that those teams cannot come out ahead of the quarter-finals.

PSV and Ajax came into action on Thursday evening in the knockout round of the Europa League, in which Sevilla and 1. FC Union Berlin respectively proved to be too strong over two matches. The team from Eindhoven could not brush away the 3-0 from the first leg in the Philips Stadium (2-0 win); the team of trainer John Heitinga lost 3-1 in the return after the 1-1 draw in Amsterdam. Feyenoord and AZ are therefore the only two Dutch teams that are still active in Europe.
