Fenerbahçe has won a victory over low flyer Giresunspor in the Süper Lig on Thursday. Thanks to goals from Ferdi Kadioglu and Mesut Özil, coach Vitor Pereira’s team won 2-1 at the Sükrü Saracoglu Stadium. Fenerbahçe recorded their first win in the last three games and are in fourth place, with thirteen points from six matches. The joint leaders Besiktas and Trabzonspor have only one point more.
Kadioglu opened the scoring in the second minute with his second goal of the season. Fenerbahçe built up on the left wing and finally Diego Rossi sent a sharp cross to the far post, where Kadioglu was ready to tap the ball in. Five minutes before the break, Giresunspor had an excellent opportunity to even the score. Referee Cüneyt Çakir awarded a penalty after a handball by Mert Hakan Yandas. Penalty taker Ibrahima Baldé opted for a low shot into the right corner, but hit the post.
After more than an hour, Fenerbahçe doubled the margin. After a far too short passback, Mergim Berisha intercepted the leather, after which he found Ozil. Goalkeeper Onurcan Piri was out of position as he came out after the short pass back, creating a chaotic situation in front of the goal. Ozil had the time and space to finish: 2-0. Giresunspor brought the tension back five minutes before time. Substitute Souleymane Doukara pulled in from the left flank and shot hard into the right corner from a distance. However, it remained at 2-1; Kadioglu was substituted seventeen minutes before time.
