FC Utrecht is having busy days on the transfer market. The Domstedelingen seem to be strengthening themselves with Niklas Vesterlund just before the market closes. ITromsø reports that Utrecht has reached an agreement with the Norwegian Tromsø IL, where the Dane still has a contract until the end of 2024. In addition, compatriot Jeppe Okkels (photo) must come from Elfsborg IF, while Modibo Sagnan is threatening to leave for Montpellier.

Vesterlund is a 24-year-old attacking right back, who can also play in midfield. The former Danish youth international, 1.85 meters tall, played 86 matches for Tromsø, in which he scored 10 goals and 12 assists.

VG writes that Vesterlund is one of the most sought-after players in Tromsø. Negotiations between the clubs have been going on for several days and an agreement has now been reached between the clubs. The exact transfer fee is unknown, but it is certain that an initial offer of four million Norwegian Kroner, equivalent to around 350,000 euros, was rejected.

Vesterlund started his career in the youth ranks of FC Copenhagen, but never made his debut in the first team of the Danish top club. In 2019 he moved to the Swedish Trelleborgs FF, where he would stay for two years before moving to the Norwegian Eliteserien.

Okkels also has to make the switch to Utrecht. The Danish attacker is seen as the replacement for Bart Ramselaar, who continues his career in Singapore. Okkels comes over from the Swedish Elfsborg IF. The 24-year-old winger is still with the Swedish club until the end of 2024. In 118 matches for Elfsborg, he scored 29 goals and provided 16 assists.

Sagnan

One player who seems to be leaving Utrecht is Sagnan. According to Foot Mercato negotiations between Utrecht and Montpellier are in the final phase. The 2012 French champion wants to strengthen himself at the center of the back, as he will almost certainly lose star Maxime Estève.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the 21-year-old defender will transfer to Burnley, which will transfer 12 million euros excluding bonuses to Montpellier. The club has also stipulated a resale percentage of fifteen in negotiations with the Clarets.

Montpellier therefore wants to shop in Utrecht. Sagnan is still with Utrecht until mid-2026, for which he played 42 times. Sagnan was rented from Real Sociedad for six months in the summer of 2022, after which Utrecht permanently acquired the 24-year-old defender for one million euros. Utrecht would rather not see Sagnan go, which means that the club wants to collect a large transfer fee.
