RKC Waalwijk achieved a victory in the Eredivisie on Sunday evening. At home, the people from North Brabant were 1-0 too strong for FC Twente thanks to a direct goal by Filip Stevanovic in the 89th minute. Immediately after the goal, cups of beer ended up on the field, resulting in a temporary strike. It was the first defeat of the season for the Tukkers, which saw them finish ahead of PSV and AZ.
Oosting did not make any changes to his team compared to the match he won against Ajax (3-1), while Henk Fraser also decided to stick with the starting eleven that was successful against Vitesse (0-2). The first big chance of the match was for Michel Vlap, who shot with purpose but hit the crossbar hard. A few minutes before the half-time signal, Twente again lacked fortune in the finish: Sem Steijn hit the left post from close range.
In the second act, FC Twente was not a shadow of itself, which allowed the uninspired RKC to get into the match better in the first half. For a long time it looked like the teams would end the match goalless, but nothing could be further from the truth. After a cross from the right, the ball landed off the back of Mees Hilgers at the feet of Stevanovic, who produced a perfect volley from close range: 1-0.
When the goal was celebrated, things went completely wrong: at least five cups of beer were thrown onto the field, causing referee Joey Kooij to immediately send both teams inside. After a fifteen-minute strike the match could be resumed. The scoreboard stopped moving in one minute of regular playing time and four minutes of extra time.
