FC Groningen has imposed a long-term stadium ban on two ‘supporters’. In the home game against sc Heerenveen things went wrong several times. First someone entered the field and later someone punched Jetro Willems. The latter has been banned from stadium for 21 years. However, after the national stadium ban of 10.5 years, the club wants to talk to the underage boy to ‘assess the situation in the meantime’.

The derby against archrival Heerenveen was a day to forget for Groningen in several ways. Not only did Dennis van der Ree’s team lose 0-2, everything happened around the field that put the club in a negative light. The man who entered the field of play has been fined 450 euros and is not allowed to enter the Euroborg for 25 years. The stadium ban of the KNVB of 12.5 years has been doubled by the club.

The ‘fan’ who slapped Willems in the face has also not been welcome in the Euroborg for a long time. The underage boy has to pay 250 euros and is banned from entering the stadium for 21 years. His stadium ban has also been doubled by FC Groningen. The club does note that it wants to sit down with the boy halfway through the sentence ‘to re-assess the situation in the meantime and to offer perspective for improving behaviour’, since it concerns a minor boy.

Groningen also went wrong during the home match against SC Cambuur. Then a group of supporters entered the field, for which the club has to pay 10,000 euros. The Pride of the North has accepted that punishment and will recover the fine from the perpetrators. “In the event of repeated incidents, the club is forced to play a match without (part of) the audience,” Groningen continues. “We want to do everything we can to prevent supporters who support the team in a positive way from being the victims of imposed penalties.”
