Paris Saint-Germain is still trying to convince Xavi Simons to extend his contract, transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano reported on Tuesday evening. Since June, the Parisians are said to have made several attempts to keep the Dutch midfielder longer, but for the time being the talks have come to nothing. On the advice of agent Mino Raiola, Simons would only be interested in a new agreement if PSG gives him a place in the A-selection. If he does not receive that guarantee, Simons would want to look for another club.

“Xavi Simons is more than a talent, he does it well,” Romano wrote on Twitter. “His current contract expires in June 2022, and PSG has been trying to reach a new deal with him since last June. However, no agreement has yet been reached. His agent Raiola wants to make sure PSG makes plans for Xavi in the first team, otherwise he will look for other clubs,” said the transfer market expert.

Since last summer, the eighteen-year-old midfielder is no longer in the plans of coach Mauricio Pochettino. Last season, Simons was part of the match selection several times and played in two official matches, as a substitute against Caen in the Coupe de France and against Strasbourg in the Ligue 1. However, Simons was never on the bench during this season and Pochettino would mainly prefer a different type of midfielder. After the arrival of Georginio Wijnaldum, PSG’s midfield has only become fuller during the last transfer window.

In mid-October, Adrián Sánchez claimed in the YouTube program Mas Que Pelotas even that Simons had submitted the request to Raiola to throw a ball at Barcelona. The agent subsequently reported to Barcelona to talk about a possible return, but he was rejected in the Catalan capital. Simons currently plays his matches on behalf of PSG Under 19, although he also regularly makes an appearance on the training field with the main force. At the same time, PSG does not want to give more playing minutes to the midfielder as long as he does not extend his expiring contract, reported ASH day after Sánchez’s statements.
