Aston Villa has strengthened itself with Danny Ings, the club reports via the official channels on Tuesday evening. The striker comes over from Southampton and signs a deal until mid-2025. Fabrizio Romano also indicates during a live session on Twitch that the transfer is closely linked to the likely departure of Jack Grealish to Manchester City.

Ings was still under contract with Southampton until June 2022, which means that, according to various English media, he makes the switch to Villa for a relatively low amount. The exact transfer fee involved in the deal has not yet been announced, although estimate Transfermarkt that the goal-getter is worth 22 million euros. Romano says he is “shocked” by the deal, which he says comes out of the blue.

The three-time England international was taken over by Liverpool from Burnley in the summer of 2015 for eight million euros, but on behalf of the Reds the 29-year-old striker was unable to break through. After a loan period to Southampton names the Saints the striker definitively transfers from Liverpool in 2019 for an amount of more than 29 million euros. He has scored 41 goals for Southampton in the last three Premier League seasons. Moreover, since the 2019-20 season, only two players have scored more field goals in the Premier League: Harry Kane and Mohamed Salah.

Ings is not Villa’s first signing, who has been remarkably active during the current transfer summer. Last week, the purchase of Leon Baily, who comes from Bayer Leverkusen for 32 million euros, was announced and Emi Buendía was also attracted. The latter came over from Norwich City for an amount of more than 38 million euros. Furthermore, there is a good chance that Grealish will make the switch to City in the coming days. Reported earlier in the day the Athletic and the Guardian already that the 25-year-old attacking midfielder will make the transition to Manchester for a huge sum of around 117 million euros. With that amount Grealish would break several English transfer records.
