Manchester United have been charged by the FA, the English football association, for misconduct during last Sunday’s home game against Newcastle United (0-0). Erik ten Hag’s players would have misbehaved towards referee Craig Pawson at the start of the second half.

There was a crazy moment shortly after halftime at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon. Newcastle were awarded a free kick in their own half, which defender Fabian Schär played to goalkeeper Nick Pope to allow the latter to take the free kick. Cristiano Ronaldo claimed the free kick had already been taken by Schär and shot the ball in front of an empty goal. However, referee Pawson disallowed the goal and gave Ronaldo a yellow card.

It wasn’t just the Portuguese superstar who went to the referee for redress. almost all Red Devils gathered around Pawson. According to the FA, United’s players have gone too far, as a result of which the football association has now sued the Ten Hag club. The British have until October 20 to respond. The United manager also went to Pawson after the game against Newcastle. Ten Hag indicated on Tuesday at the press conference prior to the home game with Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday evening that the reactions of his players were not too bad.

“I don’t think it was that aggressive. The Newcastle defender (Schär, ed.) already touched the ball, that was very clear. The players then went to the referee to ask.” The ex-coach of Ajax also commented on Ronaldo’s angry and indignant reaction after his substitution, who clearly did not agree. “No player is happy to be substituted, especially Ronaldo. As long as he does that in a fairly normal way, I have no problem with that.”
