Luke Shaw is very satisfied with the way Erik ten Hag puts together his basic formations at Manchester United, the 27-year-old left back says in conversation with news medium The National. The Englishman was regularly passed by Ten Hag himself this season, but is full of praise for his manager’s selection policy.

Ten Hag is not afraid of the danger at United this season: proven names such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Harry Maguire, Raphael Varane and Shaw regularly have to settle for a place on the bench. The left wing defender thinks that the policy of Ten Hag the Red Devils benefits. “I think the good thing about this manager is that he keeps everyone on their toes. He makes sure everyone is one hundred percent every day. If you’re not good at it, you don’t play. That is very good.”

Shaw also had to bend himself due to poor performances during United’s first two league defeats and was replaced by Tyrell Malacia. Against Everton (1-2 win) and Newcastle United (0-0), the left leg was again the basic player. He didn’t find it surprising that Shaw was passed over for a while. “I didn’t need any comment from Ten Hag. I knew it wasn’t good enough and I understood that I had to give up my seat.”

The 23-time England international still hopes to go to the World Cup in Qatar with his home country. During the last international match of the Three Lions Shaw was accurate in a goal-rich duel with Germany (3-3). Shaw was there for England during the disappointing 2014 World Cup, but was not called up in 2018 by national coach Gareth Southgate.
