Latest update:

Thomas Beelen is having a strong season at Feyenoord. The center back has been playing as a replacement for Gernot Trauner in recent weeks and is doing well. However, a place in the selection of the Dutch national team is not yet available.

National coach Ronald Koeman announced his selection on Friday for the next two international matches against Scotland and Germany. Beelen's name was not on that list.

“It's still a bit early to talk about that,” the Feyenoord defender remains modest in conversation with NOS. “There is also a lot of competition for my position.”

“I haven't really thought about it yet,” Beelen continues. “I have only just started playing for Feyenoord. The Dutch national team is more something for the future. Although things can move very quickly in football. I have experienced that myself.”

Koeman signed a total of nine defenders from the Dutch team: Nathan Aké, Daley Blind, Virgil van Dijk, Denzel Dumfries, Jeremie Frimpong, Lutsharel Geertruida, Quilindschy Hartman, Matthijs de Ligt and Stefan de Vrij.

Luck

Beelen takes full advantage of Trauner's injuries. “In the beginning I spent a lot of time on the bench. That chance is there when you switch from Zwolle to Feyenoord, but it is never fun.”

“I learned a lot during the training during that period and I am now benefiting from it. The difference in quality is big between Zwolle and Feyenoord. Sometimes you have to be a bit lucky. I have that with Gernot's injury. That has an impact. worked out well for me.”
