RB Leipzig has won for the first time this Champions League season. The Germans were too strong for Celtic on their own field, which was entitled to more, especially in the first half: 3-1. Christopher Nkunku was the great star at Leipzig, which was forced to change after ten minutes. This allowed Janis Blaswich, who was relegated from the Eredivisie last season with Heracles Almelo, to make his debut at the highest level.

There was soon turmoil in the Red Bull Arena in Leipzig, as goalkeeper Péter Gulácsi retired after a few minutes with an apparently serious injury and reserve goalkeeper Blaswich had to trot on. The goalie who came over from Heracles was immediately tested by the attacking-minded Celtic, but he kept his goal clean with some tricks. Leipzig then struck on the other side of the field itself. Nkunku rounded Joe Hart and pushed the ball into the short corner: 1-0. The Frenchman also scored earlier in the game, but that goal was disallowed for offside.

At the beginning of the second half, however, relations in East Germany were immediately restored by the Scots. Kyogo Furuhashi took advantage of Timo Werner’s loss of possession and put aside in time, after which Jota scored the 1-1 for Celtic. That was the time for Those Roten Bullen to go up a gear. Dominik Szoboszlai’s goal after 62 minutes was still cancelled, but sixty seconds later Hart just gave the ball away and André Silva poked the 2-1 against the ropes. The Portuguese striker also made it 3-1 after fifteen minutes, after a miracle pass from the back of Nkunku. That was it.
