Royston Drenthe believes that the versatility of Javairô Dilrosun has its drawbacks. The originally Feyenoord wing attacker agrees and states that things went wrong for him when trainer Arne Slot placed him in the number 10 position. Dilrosun started the season as a basic player, but gradually lost his place with the national champion. Slot usually opts for Igor Paixão and Oussama Idrissi on the wings.

In principle, Dilrosun can play in any position in the forefront and, according to Drenthe, that is not always advantageous for the Feyenoord player. “If you are an all-rounder, the trainer will also use you as an all-rounder,” concludes the former player of the Rotterdam club in Kick ‘t Met by Ziggo Sports. “But then you are also exasperated in your qualities. You cannot play the stars of heaven every week, but if you feel good in a certain position … You do it, because it is your job and the trainer expects something from you, but it often also takes the dynamics out of your game. So my question to you is: what is your favorite position?”

“I feel better on the right because I have more chance to score,” replies Dilrosun, who scored five times this season in the Eredivisie and once in the TOTO KNVB Cup. “At the beginning of the season I played everything, but in the second half of the season I had to play on ten because Sebastian Szymanski got injured. And then it all went wrong. I played good games on the right, so I expected I wanted to come and play there. I wanted to help the team and it’s not that I can’t play on ten, but it did mean that I played less at the end of the season.”

Dilrosun usually has to tolerate Paixão on the right and has been used by Slot as a substitute lately. The wing attacker saw Paixão score brilliantly on Sunday in the 3-0 championship match against Go Ahead Eagles. There is a chance that Slot has a basic place in store for Dilrosun in the closing matches against FC Emmen and Vitesse, as Feyenoord has already won the championship.
