Borussia Dortmund took the lead in the Bundesliga on Friday evening. The team of trainer Edin Terzic won the top match against RB Leipzig at home 2-1. Marco Reus and Emre Can scored on behalf the Boruses, after which Emil Forsberg did something in return. Dortmund now has three points more than number two Bayern Munich, which will play on Saturday. Leipzig is currently fourth.
The home team, where Donyell Malen was missing due to an injury, seemed to take the lead after thirteen minutes via Julian Brandt. The German midfielder came face to face with Janis Blaswich and passed the keeper, but the goal was disallowed as Brandt had made a hand. After more than twenty minutes, Dortmund scored again and this time the goal did count: Reus was tapped in the penalty area by the outgoing Blaswich, the ball hit the spot and Reus hit. It was the German winger’s 159th goal for Dortmund; equaling Michael Zorc’s club record. Ten minutes before the end, Marcel Halstenberg was close to 1-1 with a volley, but he saw his effort go over the goal. Can shot in a falling ball a few minutes later: 2-0.

After the break, the first chance was for Leipzig. After a combination between Benjamin Henrichs and André Silva, the latter shot just wide. Blaswich was able to prevent Dortmund from making it 3-0 through Reus with a nice save halfway through the second half, after which Dortmund goalie Alexander Meyer prevented the tying goal with a good result and a good save on the other side. More than fifteen minutes before the end, the 2-1 still fell, when Forsberg slid in a low cross from David Raum. Leipzig was threatening in the final phase, and Timo Werner came closest to 2-2. However, his effort in stoppage time was taken off the line by Nico Schlotterbeck. Partly because of this, brand new leader Dortmund booked the eighth league victory in a row, equaling the club record within one season.
