Borussia Dortmund lost points in the Bundesliga for the first time this season on Saturday. The team of trainer Edin Terzic had a particularly difficult time at VfL Bochum, which fought for a point: 1-1. The home team took the lead in the first half through Kevin Stöger, but after the break Donyell Malen managed to score the equalizer against the ropes via a nice hip shot. Dortmund was not itself, although it still had some chances for the winning goal. However, no more goals were scored, so that Dortmund now has four points from two games.

On the side of Bochum, trainer Thomas Letsch had a starting place for former Vitessen players Matús Bero and Maximilian Wittek. Both players would play a great game. At Dortmund, Malen and Sébastien Haller were at the kick-off. They formed the attack with Julian Brandt. Felix Nmecha was the most advanced pawn in midfield, which also consisted of Emre Can and Marcel Sabitzer.

Both teams showed they were looking forward to it right from the start. For example, Haller missed a header opportunity and Wittek had a sharp cross to Philipp Hofmann, who only just saw his effort turned by Gregor Kobel. Dortmund occasionally broke out dangerously, but it was Bochum who took the lead after fifteen minutes. A long ball from goalkeeper Manuel Riemann ended up with Wittek, who played straight through to Stöger. The Austrian then shot devastatingly in the far corner: 1-0.

Wittek played an important role in Bochum’s attacking play and that resulted in another great opportunity. Bero gave in to Wittek, who in turn found Takuma Asano. The Japanese put the necessary force behind his attempt, which nevertheless ended up in the hands of Kobel. Dortmund could do little to counter this, although Malen’s shot went just a few meters wide. Hofman also got another chance. Stöger’s corner kick hit the crossbar.

The second half started with a big downer for Bochum. Wittek stretched his leg high to take a pass and suffered a hamstring injury in the process. His replacement Danilo Soares saw Dortmund equalize ten minutes after the break. Brandt lost to Malen, who had a hip shot in the house that was too powerful for Riemann: 1-1. Not much later, Riemann had an answer to a shot from close range by Felix Nmecha, while Bochum also came close to taking the lead. Stöger had a hard and curly shot in the house that could only just be turned by Kobel. Moments later, the goalkeeper had no chance, but he saw a shot from about eighteen meters over the outside of the post go wide. On the other hand, Jamie Bynoe-Gittens missed an opportunity to make it 1-2.

SV Darmstadt 98 – Union Berlin 1-4
Union Berlin entered the starting line-up with Danilho Doekhi, while Sheraldo Becker came on after 25 minutes. The capitals got off to an excellent start, as summer acquisition Robin Gosens already took the lead in the fourth minute. Half the Dutchman picked up the ball from about twenty meters from the goal, played his man and neatly rounded off: 0-1. Shortly after the second yellow card for Union midfielder Brenden Aaronsen, Marvin Mehlem made it 1-1. Gosens restored the lead via a header, after which Kevin Behrens even made it 1-3 by heading in the 1-3 after bad defending at Darmstadt. The 1-4 fell after the break via Doekhi, who headed in from a corner kick.
